This is the only part of the system that is not in the engine compartment. The job of the evaporator is to take the hot air out of the cabin and use it to change the properties of the refrigerant that is used to cool the vehicle. The evaporator is a small radiator with a series of tubes. The refrigerant is sent through those tubes as a cold liquid. When the hot air from the cabin hits the evaporator, the liquid is changed to a gas form.
